Jerry Vern Johnson, 62, of Sumner, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at home from complications of cancer.
He was born June 29, 1946, in New Hampton, son of Vern and Elaine Kilcher Johnson. On Nov. 8, 1966, he married Miriam Meyer at St. John Lutheran Church, Spring Fountain, rural Sumner.
Mr. Johnson graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1965 and served with the U.S. Army as a military policeman. He had been employed for 37 years at Wonder Bread, Waterloo, and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner.
Survived by: his wife; three sons, Todd (Theresa) of Denver, Troy (Kistie ) of Grinnell and Trent of Sumner; four grandchildren; his mother of Fredericksburg; two brothers Larry of Fredericksburg and Jamie (Penny) of Sumner; and five sisters, Vernice Luck of New Hartford, Jan (Gary) Rieck of Waverly, Joan Hollar of Cresco, Linda Jordan of Ionia and Renee (Steve) Mayer of Green Bay, Wis.
Preceded in death by: his father; and two brothers-in-law, Dale Luck and Warren Gaede.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner, with burial at 1 p.m. in St. John Lutheran-Stapleton Cemetery, rural Waucoma. Military rites will be conducted by Thomas E. Woods American Legion Post 223 of Sumner. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. today at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
