Officer Hunt succumbed to injuries received in a "On Duty" motorcycle accident two days earlier. He was chasing a speeding vehicle on Government Drive in Forest Park when the front tire on his motorcycle blew out as he rounded a corner.

Officer Hunt was thrown over the handle bars and sustained a skull fracture. A witness to the accident rushed him to the hospital where he later succumbed to the injuries.

Officer Hunt at the time of his death was only 27 years, 11 months, and 12 days of age, and was assigned to the Traffic Safety Division of the Saint Louis Police Department.

Officer Hunt had been with the agency for two years and was survived by his expectant wife, Lavinia, of the home at 5882(A) Cote Brilliante Ave.

His son, Carl R. Hunt,(1925-1986) who was born one month after the "Line of Duty Death" of his father, and also joined the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Officer Hunt was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Edward / Minnie (Scott) Hunt.
