Tilghman served with Co. H 10th Infantry Regiment Indiana, Co. E 31st Indiana Infantry Volunteers, and Co. B 148th Indiana Infantry Volunteers. He was wounded at the battle of Chickamauga.

Tilghman Moore, whose long and serious illness has been mentioned in these columns, died last Thursday, Sept. 22. He was born Sept. 23, 1839; hence had just completed his 59th year. December 25, 1865, he married Miss Mary Shonkwiler. Five children were born to them, the mother and one son preceding him to the spirit land. Mr. Moore had a varied experience in the war of the Rebellion, enlisting first in the 10th Indiana in which he served three months. Later he joined the 31st and made the famous march with Sherman to the sea. After that he was transferred to the 144th and was mustered out at the close of the war. Funeral services were held at the residence, on the Marshall road, Saturday forenoon, Rev. S. R. Beal officiating. The youngest son was prostrated by the death of his father and fainted before the funeral party left the house. There was a large attendance. Burial in the Rockville cemetery.
