ALDRIDGE Frederick Stokes Aldridge, 89, retired Colonel in the US Marine Corps and former Chairman of the Social Sciences Division at Jacksonville University, died August 4, 2006, in Jacksonville, Florida. The native of New York City and Mattatuck, Long Island, Frederick Aldridge was educated at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Colgate University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1939. He was captain of the swim team, a sport which was to remain a lifelong pleasure. Later Frederick Aldridge attended Harvard Business School and received his Ph D. in History from American University in Washington, D.C. Col. Aldridge served in the Pacific arena during World War II; his career then stationed him in Korea. In 1958, Col. Aldridge was assigned to the Joint Chief-of-staff in Washington, D.C., to be followed by a tour of duty with NATO in 1960. After 25 years in the USMC, Frederick Aldridge moved to Atlantic Beach in 1965 and joined the faculty of Jacksonville University. With a strong interest in local planning issues, he became president of the Northeast Florida Chapter of the Planning and Zoning Association and also was a founder of the North Beaches Association. Frederick Aldridge was married to the former Mary Belle Lee, his wife of 55 years who died in 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Belle Heath Aldridge and his grandson, Kyle Aldridge Black. His son, Frederick S. Aldridge, Jr., died in 1999.
