Barbara Kerr Cart, wife of William Porter Cart, Jr, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 16, 2007, at her home in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, following a brief illness.

She was the daughter of the late Helen Rogers Kerr, of Bishopville, SC and the late F. Kenneth Kerr of Charleston, SC.

Mrs. Cart (Barbara) was reared and educated in the public schools of South Carolina, She attended Columbia College and some years later, the College of Charleston. She lived in Summerville, South Carolina for many years, rearing a family and joining a small staff of people who established the Summerville Journal-Scene, a local newspaper there in the early 1970's. She was the Women's Editor and wrote the popular column, Out on a Limb .

She was active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Summerville, for many years.

Barbara moved with her husband, William Porter Cart, to Mount Pleasant in 1986 and was employed with the Medical University of South Carolina, in the Department of Medicine as a Student Education Coordinator.

She retired from the Medical University of Charleston in 2004.

She co-authored the book, If It Comes In a Black Velvet Box I'll Love It with her daughter Susan Waring Koch in 2001.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant, and was active as a Stephen Minister.

Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Cart and their family are invited to attend a celebration of her life on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, in Summerville, SC at 2 o'clock.

Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock.
Interment will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Churchyard, Summerville, SC.

Barbara was preceded in death by a beloved brother, Francis Kenneth Kerr, Jr.

She is survived by a loving family which includes her husband, William Porter Cart, a son, James Barry Waring, Jr., his wife, Lisa Schwerdt Waring,and her children, Lindsey and Michael; a daughter, Susan Waring Koch, her husband, Timothy Wallace Koch, Ph.D., and his children, Michala and Andy, stepdaughters, Frances Cart Miller, husband, William Winston Miller, and their daughter, Fran; Alice Cart Parker, husband, Samuel Bruce Parker, Jr., and their children, Trip and Ashley, Prentice Cart Williams and husband, Michael Williams, and their sons, Mike, Jr and Christopher.
