Mrs. Josephine (Jo) Hicks McMasters, 86, formerly of Liberty, passed away Friday, December 19, 2008, at Clapp's Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. on Monday, December 22, at Bethany United Methodist Church, Troy Estate Road, Liberty, NC 27298 officiated by Reverend Alex Miles. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a lifelong member of Bethany United Methodist Church of Liberty and Liberty Homemakers Association. She was an avid gardener and an amazing seamstress. She had a great love and respect for her country and its Military, due to the fact her husband served in World War II and her three sons served at the same time in the Vietnam War era.

Josephine was the daughter of the late Erastus and Ada Brady Hicks and was also preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Kesler McMasters and two sisters, Kate and Juanita and one brother, Wesley (Mutt).

She is survived by her three sons, Cary McMasters (Doris Ann), Ronald McMasters (Karen) and Jerry McMasters (Diane); her daughter, Linda Smith (Steve); one sister, Ruth Hicks; three brothers, June, Edsel and Bill Hicks; nine grandchildren, Jody, Shane, C.J., Kristen and Jacob McMasters, Jaime Webb, Kim Blake, Stacy Cannon, Casey Smith and six great grandchildren.
