ELIZABETH BRADLEY, SCHOOL ATTENDANCE OFFICER, DIES
Widely Known Resident Stricken With Heart Attack at Mill Creek Cabin
Mrs. Elizabeth Bradley, attendance supervisor of San Bernardino city schools for 23 years, died in her sleep at a camp in Mill Creek canyon early yesterday, apparently when she was stricken with a heart ailment.
Mrs. Bradley, who was 66 years old July 22, had suffered from heart trouble for a number of years but had not been critically ill.
FOUND BY MOTHER
She was found dead by her mother, Mrs. Laura A. Curtis, 91. The two had been spending a vacation at a campground in Upper Mill Creek canyon where Mrs. Bradley had observed her first birthday anniversary.
The campground was one of her favorite places in the mountains which she liked so well. Mrs. Bradley was a nature student and spent much time in the mountains and on the desert.
She had studied and classified wildflowers found throughout Southern California and was an authority on wildflowers. She was also a student of birds.
For years, Mrs. Bradley kept the San Bernardino public free library supplied with flowers and arranged the flowers.
PIONEER FAMILY
Mrs. Bradley was a member of a pioneer San Bernardino family and was born in a house on Sixth street between mountain View avenue and Sierra Way, just a block from her home at 527 Mountain View avenue where she had lived for years.
As an attendance supervisor, Mrs. Bradley had endeared herself to virtually every student who attended San Bernardino schools. Two years ago when she had completed 21 years of service with the school system, Mrs. Bradley emphatically declared she was not a truant officer - because a truant officer was just what the name implied. But she admitted answering to "hooky cop," because that was a jesting term of the boys and girls who were her friends.
She spent much of her own time aiding boys and girls who were in trouble and preventing them from becoming delinquents.
FUNERAL PENDING
Friends recalled that Mrs. Bradley was "always doing many, many things for others, so many that they cannot be told."
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Bradley is survived by two daughters, Mrs. L. Guinn Davison, 175 Orange street, San Bernardino and Mrs. Elizabeth Ferris of Santa Barbara; a son, Robert Bradley, executive of the internal revenue service in Minneapolis, Minn., and a brother, Edwin Curtis, 1955 F street.
Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Bradley are pending at the Mark B. Shaw Co.
