Virginia I. Baker, 78, of Vinton, died Saturday, February 9, 2008. She was born May 17, 1929 in Roanoke. She was the daughter of the late Julian Celdum Irby and Evelyn Staton Irby Wingfield. She was a secretary at National Life of Vermont and retired from Christ Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Belmont Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearl Munford Baker, sister, Betty I. Nichols and brothers, Q.C. "Bud" Irby and Ronald H. Irby. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria L. Ferguson and her husband, Richard A. Ferguson, Sr. of Hardy; son, Kevin R. Baker and his wife Suzan Baker of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandson, Julian Baker; sister, Julia I. Mann and her husband, Larry Mann of Roanoke. Memorial funeral service will be held 12 noon Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. David Walton and the Rev. Terry Foster officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 11, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540 982-2221.
