Lawyer and founder of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Born in Royalton, Vermont in 1823 and then moved and grew up in Woodstock, Vermont. He them went to San Francisco to become a lawyer and later became president of the Northern Pacific Railroad that ran across the Northern United States. In 1882 the NPR arrived to the tiny town of Coulson, Montana and was renamed after him and Billings County, North Dakota is named after him.
