World War II VETERAN
Bill was the son of Samuel Jasper Allred and Thelma Blanche Franklin. His father was murdered when he was three years old and his mother left him temporarily with her parents while she sought work. The family ended up in Southern California where Bill eventually returned to live with his mother. He went to college for a couple of years, entered the Army Air Corps, and served at Elmendorf, Alaska.
When Bill was a baby, his dad bought a pair of bib coveralls that were a store display for his son to wear. The family posed next to their car. Bill's grandson Ryan is wearing the same coveralls in the next photo. Bill is on the right and his daughter Margie (me) on the left - we were trying to pose like the original photo. Note Bill's personalized license plate - Allred.
One of the other photos posted is of Bill with his 5 deer in one day. Yes, it was illegal to do that in one day back then, too. Bill loved to hunt. He used to run trap lines in southern California back in the 1930's when there was open land there.
After the service, he became a logger and married Doris Kinkade in Snohomish, Washington. The couple had 3 sons and 1 daughter, though one son died at birth. In 1955, the couple divorced. Bill remarried to Priscilla R. "Pattie" Skeate in 1962 in Los Angeles. They eventually moved back to Snohomish County in Washington, where he got a job with Burlington Northern Railroad. The couple lived in Sultan, where they were well known. Both were active in the VFW there.
After a month-long hospitalization for the flu, Bill died from respiratory failure. He was 63 years old and was buried with military honors in Sultan Cemetery in the veteran's section.
