Our John Sliger was living with Catherine in Hancock County, Illinois in 1860. She appeared in the 1870 census as head of household as John died in 1865 at the age of 54 years and 2 days per his tombstone, located in Browning Cemetery.
The published Sherfey family history shows John Sliger with a different wife living in 1860 and 1880 Washington County, Tennessee. This John Sliger with wife Rutha in the Sherfey family history is in error and has the John Sligers of that era confused.
A will for either John or Catherine has not been found and no land records have yet been located.

Researcher Mary Keller stated that no obits were located. She provided the photo of the Sliger family graves. The cemetery owner, Mr. Stuehrenberg, restored the cemetery and pieced together the broken stones and secured them with stainless steel rods.
