RUBY WALLACE ADCOCK SHERRICK
"I, Ruby Wallace [Adcock] Sherrick was born August 16, 1895, south of what is now Ochelata, Oklahoma, at my grandparents home, `Big' Reuben R. Tyner's place. My parent's home was northeast of Oglesby. My grandfather was one-quarter Cherokee. The Civil War had just ended when he was married to my grandmother, Almira Virginia Irons, who was a midwife. They came to live with my uncle, Nathan and Betsy Tyner near Skiatook. Later, they went to Silver Lake and worked in the store there with Joseph and Sabrina Bennett. They traded with the Osage Indians for buffalo hides. My grandparents had 11 children, my mother, Fanny, being the oldest. They later moved south of Ochelata where they lived until their death, and raised eleven children."
"At this time there wer no cars, no trains, no phones, no gas lights, nothing but trails for roads, few, if any, bridges and few fences."
"My father, William [Buck] Wallace, came from Hope, Arkansas. His father was from Scotland. He and Fanny Tyner were married in 1892 at the old Hillside Mission near Skiatook. They made their home southwest of Oglesby where my father ran the Carter Store sometimes called `Sequoyah.' Later my father became the first County Treasurer of Washington County after statehood."
"I attended many rural schools and one year in the old Garfield school in Bartlesville. I graduated from Ramona in 1914. I went on to Occidental College in Los Angeles, Tulsa University and finally to Edmond where I got my teacher's degree. I taught for 40 years in Washington County with the last 25 years in Ramona. In 1956, I won the coveted award of Oklahoma Teacher of the Year and was presented a beautiful trophy. Ramona residents and my friends gave me a special `This is Your Life' program at that time. I am now retired, but still take part in the Retired Teacher's Association."
"Orlan E. Adcock and I were married in 1918. We had one daughter, Vivian [Adcock] Ward of Bartlesville. In later years I married George J. Sherrick. He had four fine children; two girls still live in Tulsa. We have eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren."

MRS. SHERRICKTO RETIRE AS RAMONA TEACHER
Ramona [Special] - At the end of this school term, Mrs. Ruby Sherrick will retire from the teaching profession, it was announced by Gus Piguet, superintendent of the Ramona Schools.
Mrs. Sherrick graduated from the Ramona High School in 1914. After continuing her education at Occidental College in Los Angeles, Tulsa University and Oklahoma University, she was awarded a bachelor of science degree from Edmond in 1935.
She began her teaching career at Ramona's East Side School in 1916 and moved to Tyner school and later to the Oglesby School. In 1933 Mrs. Sherrick transferred to the Ramona School. Most of her career has been spent teaching the first, second and third grades.
She was chosen "Teacher of the Year" from Washington County in 1959 based on the number of years of service.
She has been a teacher in Washington County Schools for 37 years, Piguet said.

"The handsome house of Roy Miller was completed last Thursday and the owner has moved into it. Roy reports the new brick a pleasant place to live. (This house of Roy Miller was constructed of Ramona brick and was a wedding gift to his wife, Miss Flossie Carselowey.)"

Notes DEATH NOTICE - RUBY A. SHERRICK
**Mrs. Ruby A. Sherrick, 89, a member of pioneer area settlers and retired longtime school teacher of this area, died at 1:52 p. m. Tuesday in the Jane Phillips Hospital where she had been a patient since Feb. 21.
**Funeral services for Mrs. Sherrick will be held at 2 p. m. Friday in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Ramona. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Tyner Cemetery beside the grave of Orlan E. Adcock. The Rev. James Beck, pastor of her church, and Rev. Roman Ward, Jr.,will be the officiants. Final rites will be directed by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service.
**Mrs. Sherrick was a native of Indian Territory. She was born Aug. 16, 1895 in rural Ochelata to Fannie Tyner Wallace and William Buchanan Wallace. She was reared and received her education in the Ochelata, Ramona and Bartlesville communities where she attended elementary schools at Ochelata and Bartlesville. She graduated from Ramona High School in 1914. She was a student at Occidental College, Los Angeles, Calif., for two years, attended Tulsa University, the University of Oklahoma at Norman and Central State Teachers College, Edmond. She received her B. S. Degree in Education from Central State Teachers College.
**She began her life's career as a school teacher in the Ramona schools and taught in the elementary grades at East Side School. She also taught in all school grade levels in the Oglesby community school before she returned to her alma mater, where she was a teacher for 25 years. In 1961 Mrs. Sherrick was retired from school teaching. In 1969 she was chosen as the "Teacher of the Year" of Washington County.
**She and the late Orlan E. Adcock were married in Bartlesville on June 5, 1918 and he preceded her in death in Sept. of 1934. She and the late George James Sherrick were married at Maysville, Ark. on May 19, 1939 and they made
their home in Ramona until his death at Tulsa on Sept 4, 1977. Mrs. Sherrick continued living in Ramona in retirement until her recent illness and death.
**Mrs. Sherrick dedicated her talents to the teaching of youth, caring for the shut-ins throughout the south section of Washington County and was prominent in her interests of the senior citizens movement in the south section of our area until recent months.
**She will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of the Arnold Moore Funeral Residence where friend may call for visitation on Wednesday evening and Thursday until she is removed to the Ramona church for services on Friday.
**Survivors include two step-daughters: Mrs. Mary E. McCracken Murray and Mrs. Charles (Margarent Ann) Audrain, both of Tulsa; a half-brother, Glenn Wallace, Long Beach, Calif., two grandsons; seven great grandchildren; five
step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Adcock Ward and a grandson, Curt Malcolm Ward.
**A memorial in remembrance of Mrs. Sherrick has been established with the Ramona First Baptist Church Building Fund. Friends who care to remember her in this way may forward their gifts to Rev. James Beck, P. O. Box 205, Ramona, Okla. 74061.

RUBY WALLACE ADCOCK SHERRICK
"I, Ruby Wallace [Adcock] Sherrick was born August 16, 1895, south of what is now Ochelata, Oklahoma, at my grandparents home, `Big' Reuben R. Tyner's place. My parent's home was northeast of Oglesby. My grandfather was one-quarter Cherokee. The Civil War had just ended when he was married to my grandmother, Almira Virginia Irons, who was a midwife. They came to live with my uncle, Nathan and Betsy Tyner near Skiatook. Later, they went to Silver Lake and worked in the store there with Joseph and Sabrina Bennett. They traded with the Osage Indians for buffalo hides. My grandparents had 11 children, my mother, Fanny, being the oldest. They later moved south of Ochelata where they lived until their death, and raised eleven children."
"At this time there wer no cars, no trains, no phones, no gas lights, nothing but trails for roads, few, if any, bridges and few fences."
"My father, William [Buck] Wallace, came from Hope, Arkansas. His father was from Scotland. He and Fanny Tyner were married in 1892 at the old Hillside Mission near Skiatook. They made their home southwest of Oglesby where my father ran the Carter Store sometimes called `Sequoyah.' Later my father became the first County Treasurer of Washington County after statehood."
"I attended many rural schools and one year in the old Garfield school in Bartlesville. I graduated from Ramona in 1914. I went on to Occidental College in Los Angeles, Tulsa University and finally to Edmond where I got my teacher's degree. I taught for 40 years in Washington County with the last 25 years in Ramona. In 1956, I won the coveted award of Oklahoma Teacher of the Year and was presented a beautiful trophy. Ramona residents and my friends gave me a special `This is Your Life' program at that time. I am now retired, but still take part in the Retired Teacher's Association."
"Orlan E. Adcock and I were married in 1918. We had one daughter, Vivian [Adcock] Ward of Bartlesville. In later years I married George J. Sherrick. He had four fine children; two girls still live in Tulsa. We have eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren."

MRS. SHERRICKTO RETIRE AS RAMONA TEACHER
Ramona [Special] - At the end of this school term, Mrs. Ruby Sherrick will retire from the teaching profession, it was announced by Gus Piguet, superintendent of the Ramona Schools.
Mrs. Sherrick graduated from the Ramona High School in 1914. After continuing her education at Occidental College in Los Angeles, Tulsa University and Oklahoma University, she was awarded a bachelor of science degree from Edmond in 1935.
She began her teaching career at Ramona's East Side School in 1916 and moved to Tyner school and later to the Oglesby School. In 1933 Mrs. Sherrick transferred to the Ramona School. Most of her career has been spent teaching the first, second and third grades.
She was chosen "Teacher of the Year" from Washington County in 1959 based on the number of years of service.
She has been a teacher in Washington County Schools for 37 years, Piguet said.

**This was in a June 29, 1906 issue of the Ramona Herald. So we know for sure when the house you live in was built. Sure was a long time ago. "The handsome house of Roy Miller was completed last Thursday and the owner has moved into it. Roy reports the new brick a pleasant place to live. (This house of Roy Miller was constructed of Ramona brick and was a wedding gift to his wife, Miss Flossie Carselowey.)"

Notes DEATH NOTICE - RUBY A. SHERRICK
**Mrs. Ruby A. Sherrick, 89, a member of pioneer area settlers and retired longtime school teacher of this area, died at 1:52 p. m. Tuesday in the Jane Phillips Hospital where she had been a patient since Feb. 21.
**Funeral services for Mrs. Sherrick will be held at 2 p. m. Friday in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Ramona. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Tyner Cemetery beside the grave of Orlan E. Adcock. The Rev. James Beck, pastor of her church, and Rev. Roman Ward, Jr.,will be the officiants. Final rites will be directed by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service.
**Mrs. Sherrick was a native of Indian Territory. She was born Aug. 16, 1895 in rural Ochelata to Fannie Tyner Wallace and William Buchanan Wallace. She was reared and received her education in the Ochelata, Ramona and Bartlesville communities where she attended elementary schools at Ochelata and Bartlesville. She graduated from Ramona High School in 1914. She was a student at Occidental College, Los Angeles, Calif., for two years, attended Tulsa University, the University of Oklahoma at Norman and Central State Teachers College, Edmond. She received her B. S. Degree in Education from Central State Teachers College.
**She began her life's career as a school teacher in the Ramona schools and taught in the elementary grades at East Side School. She also taught in all school grade levels in the Oglesby community school before she returned to her alma mater, where she was a teacher for 25 years. In 1961 Mrs. Sherrick was retired from school teaching. In 1969 she was chosen as the "Teacher of the Year" of Washington County.
**She and the late Orlan E. Adcock were married in Bartlesville on June 5, 1918 and he preceded her in death in Sept. of 1934. She and the late George James Sherrick were married at Maysville, Ark. on May 19, 1939 and they made
their home in Ramona until his death at Tulsa on Sept 4, 1977. Mrs. Sherrick continued living in Ramona in retirement until her recent illness and death.
**Mrs. Sherrick dedicated her talents to the teaching of youth, caring for the shut-ins throughout the south section of Washington County and was prominent in her interests of the senior citizens movement in the south section of our area until recent months.
**She will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of the Arnold Moore Funeral Residence where friend may call for visitation on Wednesday evening and Thursday until she is removed to the Ramona church for services on Friday.
**Survivors include two step-daughters: Mrs. Mary E. McCracken Murray and Mrs. Charles (Margarent Ann) Audrain, both of Tulsa; a half-brother, Glenn Wallace, Long Beach, Calif., two grandsons; seven great grandchildren; five
step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Adcock Ward and a grandson, Curt Malcolm Ward.
**A memorial in remembrance of Mrs. Sherrick has been established with the Ramona First Baptist Church Building Fund. Friends who care to remember her in this way may forward their gifts to Rev. James Beck, P. O. Box 205, Ramona, Okla. 74061.
