Memorial Services for Long-time Resident to Be Held

Anna Louise (James) Buckley/Leigh , 304 May Avenue, Sp. 39, Yuma, died from cancer February 11, 2003, at Tucson Medical Center Hospice. Louise was born in Coleman, Texas, January 21, 1914 to Wylie T. James and Dorothy S. James.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, four brothers, Jesse, Wylie, Jr., Aubrey, Curtis, and one sister , Dorothy. She is survived by two brothers, Ted of Tucson, Leslie of Douglas, and one sister, Frances Andreas of Greensboro, NC. The family moved to Bisbee, in 1917 where she attended schools, graduating from Bisbee High School in 1932. On December 21, 1933 Louise married James Frances 'Fritz' Buckley. They moved in 1941 to Salem, Oregon, and in 1962 moved to Yuma. 'Fritz'died in November 1972.

In her career she was a Bookkeeper for James Hardware & Plumbing and a Sales Clerk for Phelps Dodge Mercantile in Bisbee, and for Miller Mercantile in Salem. In Yuma she clerked at J. C. Penney Co. for many years, retiring in 1980. She was instrumental in moving the J. C. Penney store to its present location in the South Gate Mall.

Louise met and became a companion to Delbert Ellis and enjoyed considerable traveling until he passed away. She then married Bernard K. Leigh on September 13, 1991. He preceded her in death on July 23, 2002. Louise had no children; however, has a stepdaughter, Judie Leigh, and two step-granddaughters, Nikki Jaffe and Tammi Boyd., as well as many nieces and nephews.

At her request, a Viewing was held in Bisbee on February 15 followed by a graveside service attended by many family members and friends. A Memorial Service for her in Yuma will be held on Friday, February 21, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Ministries, 300 S. 4th Avenue. ~ provided by: bbardot
