Shirley F. Berns, 77, of St. Anne, died Friday (Feb. 6, 1998) at St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Burial will be in Sts. Mary and Joseph Cemetery, Chebanse.
He was born Nov. 27, 1920, in Chebanse, the son of Francis and Christina Anderson Berns.
Surviving are his wife, the former Norma Kray, whom he married Sept. 10, 1949, at St. Joseph Church, Bradley; one son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Lana Berns of Kankakee; one sister and brother-in-law, Luella and Clarence Merten of Bradley; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Marie Berns of Kankakee, Raymond and Patricia Berns of Herscher; three grandchildren, Shelly and Greg Rollins of Bourbonnais, Jason and Sheila Berns of Herscher, Jarrod Berns of Kankakee; several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is one sister, Viola Benoit.
Mr. Berns was a lifelong area farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the Japanese Occupation Forces. He was a member of the Chebanse American Legion. He enjoyed his Belgium horses.
