Samuel Cox was the son of Isaac Cox and Elizabeth Amy Unknown. He enlisted as a Private on March 10, 1862 in Company "A" of the 43rd Georgia Infantry Regiment, CSA also known as The Cherokee Van Guards. He died of Typhoid fever in Gate City Hospital located on corner of Alabama and Pryor Streets.
