Second Lieutenant Barnes was the pilot of
B-24E Liberator #42-6988, serving with the
2519th Base Unit at Fort Worth Army Airfield,
Texas.
He was killed, along with seven other Army
airmen, when involved in a mid-air collision
with another B-24 (#42-7240) in the skies,
approximately five miles southwest of the
airfield during a training flight.
Son of Joseph Bennett Barnes, age 27.
