Christian Mandel married Isabel Chapa (1892 - 1965) about 1915 in or near Alice, JIm Wells County, Texas. He married Rachel Azora Sellers (1898 - 1994) about 1921 in Alice, Jim Wells County, Texas.

My grandfather Christian had a knack for changing his given name through the years. In the 1900 and 1910 censuses he is listed as Christian. In the 1920 and 1930 censuses he is listed as Christel. On one of his child's birth record in 1931, he is listed as Cristal and on another child's birth record in 1934 he is listed as Chris. His death certificate lists him as Chris Karl Mandel, buried Fairview Cemetery. A TexGen Fairview Cemetery record lists him as Chris Carol. We knew his name as Cristoval.

Unfortunately, I never met my grandfather, and no one ever talked about him. For all I knew, he had died shortly after my mom was born. It was only after I started researching my family tree in 2004 that I found him and his second family, albeit 40 years too late.

The photo on the right was taken April 1919, two months before my mom was born.
