Anagene I Gary was born April 7, 1915, in Ogdensburg, a daughter of George Milton and Georgianna Canfield Ives. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy and Wallace Secretarial Studio, both in Ogdensburg.

During World War II, she was a volunteer Red Cross nurse's aide at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg, and Potsdam Hospital and was a former member of Potsdam Hospital Guild.

A marriage to Arthur H. Gary on July 17, 1954, in Canton, ended in divorce.

Mrs. Gary was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Massena. When the St. Lawrence Seaway project demobilized, she was transferred to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., to work on the McArthur Lock project. She later returned to the north country and was a secretary for Federal Land Bank, Canton, retiring in 1972 after 14 1/2 years of service.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bingo and listening to country and Hawaiian music.
