On May 13, 1891 at Aurora, MO, Claude "L." Stone m. Emma Maude McIntyre, dau. of Levi J. McIntyre and Alice Blake, b. July 1871 (1900 census) at Wausau, Wisconsin. They had two known children before they divorced. Emma subsequently m. under her maiden name June 13, 1898 at Columbus, KS as his 2nd wife, David Arthur McCully. They had four known children, resided at or just outside of Joplin, MO, and divorced prior to Jan. 1920. In Jan. 1920 David McCully was residing at Joplin with his only son by his first marriage and stated as a divorcee. David A. McCully d. Dec. 21, 1920 west of Joplin in Jasper County, MO at which time he is called a widower in his death certificate, suggesting that Emma Maude (McIntyre)(Stone) McCully was also deceased. However, no death certificate can be found for her.
Claude L. Stone and Emma Maude McIntyre had the following two known children, the eldest clearly b. before the parents married of record:
• i. Bert J. "Byrd" Stone, b. in Kansas in July 1890 (1900 census) and "1890" per his gravestone, d. in 1939; m. Feb. 26, 1913 at Tanyard Hollow (Shoal Creek Twp), Newton County, MO, Ida V. Foster. She was b. Nov. 24, 1895 at Missouri and d. May 10, 1986 (g.s.). They had no known children, but raised from infancy a daughter of Bert's first cousin.
• ii. Roy Stone, b. in May 1894 (1900 census). He was living with his mother and stepfather in the 1910 census, but apparently was deceased by May 1920.
On July 5, 1898 at Aurora, MO, a Claude "S." Stone, age 32, m. the widow Stella M. (Stone) Mann, age 21, who had an apparent 8-year old stepson. In the June 1900 census, Claude "L." Stone, a miner, was residing as a boarder at a residence in Joplin, MO, called age 35 and unmarried. On the other hand, Stella M. (Stone) (Mann) Stone was enumerated as the head of a household with her stepson and widowed mother at Aurora, MO. She subsequently m. 3) Jan. 3, 1904 at Aurora, William H. Young.
According to Claude's adopted granddau. Myrtle Naydene (Rock/Stone) McCann, Claude had only one full arm, yet could shuffle a deck of cards better than most two-armed men. For a period of time he is believed to have been a Deputy Sheriff of Ottawa County, OK.
