Death of Mr. J.F. Battle

Mr. J. F. Battle, mention of whose illness has been made in these columns from time to time for the past several months, passed away early Tuesday morning at the home of his son Mr. Geo. H Battle, in Morganton. The funeral was held from the Morganton Methodist church Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. W. F. Womble, pastor of the church. The interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, with the honors of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which deceased was a value member.

Mr. Battle was 65 years of age. He was a brave Confederate soldier, serving through the entire war. He was born and reared in Cherokee county, this State, but after the war located in Newbern, where he resided until he removed to Morganton, in 1875. He had resided here the most of the time until his death. He was twice married. His first wife was a Miss Pittman, of Newbern, his second Miss Houk, of this county. The first wife died about four years ago, the second in 1907. Three sons, by the first union, survive - Messrs. Geo. H, Joseph and James Battle, all of Morganton.

Mr. Battle had a host of friends, who sympathize with the bereaved ones. Being twice elected Register of Deeds is testimony of his popularity in the county. He was a member of the Methodist church and died in the hope of a bright beyond.
