Lucius enlisted for Civil War service in Company E of the 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, August 6, 1862, at Cleveland, Ohio(Cuyahoga County), for a term of 3 years. Occupation: Farmer. Rank: Corporal. Lucius was discharged at Frankfort, Kentucky, January 5, 1863 on a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability.

His name is on Panel #14 in the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, Public Square, Cleveland, Ohio. See: www.soldiersandsailors.com.

Married 1 July 1863 to Ledora Cleave, also called Dora or Cady(died 1919). She is buried with Lucius. They had 5 children.
