At her old home Thursday morning, August 5, at six o'clock, God took home the spirit of Mrs. Harriett Gilman Allen, wife of W.E. Allen. She was born in the town of Massena at what is known as the Gilman homestead about 65 years ago. She was married to W.E. Allen some years ago and since that time he has been a most devoted husband. They left Massena about 6 years ago, going to Colorado on account of his health. He was benefited by the change but the climate did not seem to agree with her. Consequently she rapidly failed in health until about three weeks ago when she was brought back to the old home but too late for the all wise God who knoweth called the dear one to the home on high.
She leaves to mourn her loss a sorrowing husband and two brothers, C.A. Gilman, of this place, also Orick, a brother in the far west, who was unable to be present. She also leaves a host of friends for it may well be said she was a friend to everybody and everybody was her friend for she always had that same bright smile for everyone. The flowers were beautiful and they well indicated the esteem in which she was held. Services were held at the old home Saturday a.m. at 10:30 where Rev. S.S. Short assisted by Rev. G.R. Harland spoke sweet word of consolation taking for his text John 14:15.
