Alonzo was a carpenter/wagon maker. He died of gangrene of the leg. He was reportedly shot in the leg at Stones River, Tennessee, during the Civil War. He was in four different hospitals (Nashville, Louisville, Chicago, St. Louis) from January 1863 to July 1864 and was discharged due to non-healing ulceration of the wound.

Enlisted in Company I, Illinois 21st Infantry Regiment on 28 Jun 1861. Mustered out on 05 Jul 1864.
