Anita M. Carpenter was born July 8, 1915, in the town of DeKalb, daughter of Lee and Bernice Wilstrop MacMonagle. She graduated from Rensselaer Falls High School.

She married Harold M. Carpenter on June 1, 1938, in Haverstraw. The couple lived at Rensselaer Falls for 43 years, moving to Ogdensburg in August 1990. Mr. Carpenter died Feb. 3, 1993, and for the past three years, Mrs. Carpenter had resided with her family.

Mrs. Carpenter worked at Wassaic State Hospital, then at Letchworth State Hospital before her marriage. She worked from 1938 to 1942 at Rockland State Hospital, Pearl River, and returned to Rensselaer Falls to live while her husband was in military service during World War II.

After her family was raised, she was employed by the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections under Commissioner Helen Phalen. After 18 years of service, Mrs. Carpenter retired in 1981 as deputy commissioner.

She was a member of the Rensselaer Falls chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
