David Coyle was born and raised near the village of Burnt Cabins, now part of Fulton County. He was educated and wrote in a good hand. After his marriage he moved to a farm in Tyrone Twp. in what is now Perry County. He married Martha Linn, 25 Jun 1799. Then he and his wife settled on a farm outside Ickesburg, Saville Twp., Perry County, where he resided for almost fifty years.

A farmer all his life, David was recounted to be a "quiet, unobtrusive, efficient Christian". He was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church in which he was an elder for a half century. He took a warm interest in everything related to "the spread of evangelical truth and the advance of Godliness". He and Martha had 12 children.

He was living with family in Newville, Cumberland County, when he died in his great old age. His body was taken back to Perry County and laid to rest next to his beloved Martha.
