Jacob was born in Heiligenmoschel, Pfalz, Bayern (Bavaria, Germany). He came to America in 1853 with his wife and two children aboard the "George Hurlbert", sailing from Harve, France to New Orleans, then traveled up the Mississippi to Cincinnati, OH where they lived for a brief time before settling permanently near Falmouth, Pendleton Co. KY.
