He was born in Sheboygan, Oct. 9, 1917, son of the late Edgar and Elsie Mewes. He attended Sheboygan public school.
In 1947 he married Lucille Rautmann. She died in 1951. He had been employed at various factories in the area.
Survivors are his stepfather Fred Dobrenz of Sheboygan. a step-son, James Rautmann: a brother, Raymond of Sheboygan; a half-brother, Fred Dobrenz Jr. of Franklin Park, 111.; two sisters, Mrs. Erwin FehIhaber of Schofield and Mrs. Harold McCaulley of Chicago, and two half-sisters, Mrs. John Miller and Mrs. Carl Krueger, both of Sheboygan.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home, the Rev. John Hagen, pastor of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday until time of services Thursday. There will be a memorial fund established in Mr. Mewes' name.
