Rites Held For Tom Nelson Monday Afternoon
The many years of suffering were ended on Thursday, January 8th [actually the 28th] for Tom Nelson of Strandquist when death claimed him at the Good Samaritan Rest Home in Warren where he was being cared for. He had spent the past several years in various homes and hospitals and had undergone many surgical operations but nothing that was done for him could halt the ravages of disease [diabetes] nor stay his suffering. A merciful death found him at the age of 77 years and 11 days.
Thomas Nelson was born near Kristiansand, Norway January 19th, 1877 and came to the United States in 1895 with his parents who settled near Eagle Lake, Minnesota. They lived there for about three years when an accident caused the death of his father. The family then came north and settled in Marshall County where Tom grew to manhood.
In 1911 [Nov 18, 1911 in Warren, MN], he was married to Mary Kristine Stromlund, and they have resided in Strandquist ever since. Mr. Nelson has been in very poor health for many years and has had both legs amputated so that he has been a bed patient for a long time.
Surviving beside his wife is a son, Albert Nelson of San Diego, California and a foster daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Yoraway [FAG Profile #67460406] of Minneapolis; one sister, Mrs. George Rasmusson, Sr., and a brother, Chris Nelson, both of Karlstad.
Rev. Riveness conducted the funeral services at the Gospel Tabernacle on Monday afternoon and Otto Carlson, Adrian Lindholm, Chris Pederson, Bill Berkholtz, Otto Anderson and Carl Torkelson served as pall bearers. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Chris Pederson, Mr. and Mrs. Ingolf Ingebrigtsen, Pastor Jesfield and Mrs. J. A. Riveness. Interment was made in the Karlstad Cemetery.
