Revolutionary War Patriot. As a resident of Lincoln County, NC, Joseph Henry entered military service shortly after the Battle of Ramsour's Mill in June of 1780 under Col. William Graham, Maj. John Carruth in Capt. William Chronicle's Company. He later served under Capt. John Mattocks for three months with Capt. Samuel Martin's Company. During this tour, he was marched through York District, SC and Lincoln and Rutherford Counties in NC.
After Ferguson's defeat at King's Mountain in the fall of 1780, Joseph Henry was drafted in December 1780. He served another 3 months under Col. Francis Locke, in Capt. Thomas Lofton's Company, Lt. James Robertson. His company was marched through Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan and Guilford Counties, NC. He was discharged in Guilford County without participating in any military action. During both tours he held the rank of private.
