Husband of Maria E. (Young) Alshouse. Son of Samuel and Maryetta (Closson) Alshouse. Step-son of Mary C. (Sine) Alshouse. Brother of Ellen Amanda and Alfred T. Alshouse. Half brother to George Lincoln, Virden C., Charles, John A., Isabella, Harry A., Frank Elwood and Carrie Elizabeth Alshouse. Father to Blanche Ellen Alshouse. OBITUARY
Mr. Watson Alshouse passed away at Sterling Public Hospital, Sterling, Illinois, on Sunday, November 18, 1945 , at six o'clock a.m. after a brief illness.
Watson Alshouse, second son of Samuel and Mary Alshouse, was born at Carversville, Pa., February 10, 1865, and passed away November 18, 1945 at the age of eighty years, nine months and eight days. After his mother's death, his aunt and uncle took him to live with them and in the fall of 1867 he moved with them to Bureau County, Illinois, where they settled a few miles north of Princeton. His father and family came west in the fall of 1868 and settled near Princetpn. There he grew to manhood, and worked on the farm.
At the age of twenty he united with the Baptist Church at Heaton's Point, and in 1886, he transferred his membership to the Walnut Baptist Church. He served the Walnut church as Deacon for twenty years and as Trustee for a number of years.
He was united in marriage to Maria Young on Ohio, Illinois, February 27, 1890, and to this union a daughter, Blanche was born on May 9, 1894. Mrs. Alshouse passed away Dec. 26, 1926.
He was united in marriage on March 5, 1932, to Mattie Clark of Sterling, Illinois, who preceded him in death October 25, 1936.
Mr. Alshouse lived on farms in the vicinity of Walnut, practically all of his life with the exception of a few months spent on a farm in Iowa, and the recent years in Sterling.
Besides his daughter, Mrs. Otto Kerchner, two granddsughters, Mrs. Shirley Cater and Mrs. Phyllis Winger of Sheffield, and two great grandsons, Larry and Gary Cater, he leaves to mourn his death, three half-brothers and one half sister, John of Ventura, California, Virden of Hazelton, Iowa, Frank of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Mrs. Carrie Kruse of Walnut, Ill.; two step-daughters and one step-son, Mrs. Beulah Howard of Sterling, Ill., Mrs. Darlene Bellars of Rockford, Ill., and Lawrence Clark of Sterling, Ill.; besides a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held a the Ross funeral home on November 20, 1945 conducted by Rev. Kenneth Bechtel, Pastor of the United Bretheran Church of Sterling, assisted by Rev. Harry E. Miles of Morrison. Hymns were sung by a quartet consisting of Mr. Ed Birkey, Mr. Albert Guither, Misses Mary and Amanda Hoffman, with Mrs. Ed Birkey as pianist. The casket bearers were Edwin Zehr, Lee Burkey, Davis Parsons, J.B. McCarthy, Edwin Swartzentaurb, and John Winger.
Mr. Alshouse's long life in this community has won him a place in the hearts of our citizens that cannot be refilled. He was known and respected as an industrious farmer, an obliging neighbor, a loving and kind husband and father, and as an honest man. He has always lived a consistant Christian life, loved and honored by all who knew him.
The remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Walnut cemetery amid a profusion of flowers.
