The Miami Republican, Paola, KS, Friday, March 24, 1944:

"Dorman-Mrs. Laura Dorman, 95, died Friday, Mar. 17, 1944, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. 0. E. Doty, 310 E. Chippewa. She had been in poor health several years, due to her advanced age. Laura, daughter of James and Martha Snowden, was born Nov. 26, 1848, at DeKalb, Mo. The family moved to Kansas when she was a child and on Aug. 5, 1865, she was married to James [sic, George] E. Dorman at which was then Fort William, Kan. To them were born 13 children, seven sons and six daughters, eight of whom preceded the mother in death. At the age of 15 she united with the Christian church and for more than 80 years was a faithful member. Mr. Dorman, who had been deputy county treasurer of Osage County about eight years, died in May 1899. Mrs. Dorman assumed the responsibilities of the home and kept the family together until the children reached maturity. She was Kansas pioneer, having lived in the state when it was undeveloped and she knew the hardships of the pioneer mother. She loved to talk of her pioneer experience. During her declining years she was cared for at the home of Mrs. Doty and at the home of another daughter, Mrs. B. M. Potter of Easton. Mrs. Dorman is survived by two sons, Herbert and Charles Dorman of Rock Island, III., three daughters, Mrs. Potter, Mrs. Doty and Mrs. S. B. Brown of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Fred Clark, were at Metzler's funeral home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Carol McCullough and Elizabeth Doty sang,"What a Friend We Have In Jesus." Body-bearers were. Harry Barnett, Beale Fevurly, Guy Doty, Fern P. Doty, Harry Paul McCullough and Chester Meredith. Burial was beside her husband in the cemetery at Lyndon."
