Mrs. Lemons Dead
Mrs. Mildred Abernathy Lemons (colored), wife of Mr. Walter Lemons, died at the family home Saturday evening, Feb. 24th, at 10 o'clock p.m. She was ill just a few days and her death was a shock to her many friends. She was a great favorite with her people and was highly respected by the whole town.
Mildred Abernathy was born in Weir City, thirty-five years ago, but grew to womanhood in Cherokee and attended the city school and also the County High school. She was married to Walter lemons 17 years ago. She was a member of the *C.M.E. Church and was a great worker. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, father, sister, Miss Blanche Abernathy of Kansas City, and Ward Abernathy of Canada who could not be reached, and a large circle of friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the C.M.E. church by the presiding Elder Grey of Kansas City. Interment was made in Cherokee cemetery.
