Louis Amadeus Rappe was ordained a priest 14 Mar 1829 in Arras, France. In 1847 he was appointed the Bishop of Cleveland, Ohio and was ordained 10 Oct 1847 as the Bishop of Cleveland. He resigned that post on 22 Aug 1870 to retire as the Bishop Emeritus of Cleveland, Ohio. He also served as a Council Father at the First Vatican Council in 1869-1870. He was a priest for 49 years, 30 of them also serving as a bishop. He was the first Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland.
