Funeral Services For Andrew Smedra---Ashton
Well known resident of Sherman County for 47 years
Funeral services for Andrew Smedra were held at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton last Monday morning, October 29, 1934 at 10:00, Rev. A. Jarzemski officiating. Assisting him were Rev. Kubiezewski and Rev. Kamaby of Omaha and Rev. Hinzman of Farwell, Nebr.
Interment was made in the St.Francis cemetery. The pallbearers were as follows: Joe Piechota, Joe Jehorek, Frank Maciejewski, Frank Daminski, Jacob Maciejewski, and Paul Wesierski. The funeral was very largely attended by those who cameto pay their last respects to the deceased.
Out of town relatives that attended the fineral were Stanley Staskewicz, Mrs. John Tela, John Sujanski, Leonard Seabeck, John and Frank Beister all of Omaha. Mrs.P, Roshone of Besib, Nebr, Miss Mary Seabeckof Schuyler, Louis Jehorek, Stanley Jarosz, Emil Kalkowski of Brule, Nebr, Mrs. Mary Miters, Henry Johnsons all of Broadwater, Nebr, Wm. Sidel of Palmer, Nebr, Jake Mamot of St. Libory, August Nagorski of Cushing, Ignatz Moore of Dannebrog, Roger McGuire of Wood River, Joe Krolikowski, Joe Krezior, Felix Kezior, Chas Lukasiewicz, Joe Lukasiewicz, Leo Lukasiewicz, Al Lukasiewicz, Jake Jehorek, Martin Jehorek and Mr. Joe Smedra all of Farwell.
Mr. Andrew Smedra was bom in Tarnofeu, Poland on November 30, 1851, and died at Ashton October 20, 1934. At the time of death, he was 82 years, l0 months and 27 daysof age. He received his early schooling in Poland and lived with his parents on the farm. At the age of 28 years he married Agnes Jehorek on May 25,l879. One year after their marriage, Mr. Smedra emigrated to America, settling in Momence, Ill. during the month of March. After settling in this country in the spring, he was joined by his wife in October of the same year. The couple lived on a farm near Momence for 7 years after which time they moved to Sherman County where Mr. Smedra purchased a farm located 3 miles south of Ashton. This was in the year 1887. They stayed on this farm for a period of 3l years after which they moved to Ashton in retirement, which was 6 years ago.
Mr. Smedra parted from this life at his home in Ashton, Sat. morning, Oct. 20, 1934 at 7:15. He had been ailing for about 3 years, but the past 2 weeks he had beenseriously ill with pneumonia.
Surviving him are his wife and 8 children, 3 daughters, Mrs.Mary Seabeck of Rockville, Mrs. Kate Beister of Omaha and Mrs. Anna Sivinski of Ashton, 5 sons, Frank, Stanley, and Paul of Ashton and Joe and Theodore of Loup City. 2 of his children preceded him in death. He also leaves 34 grandchildren, 1I great grandchildren, also 5 sisters, and 1 brother living in Poland,and one brother Joseph of Farell
