Carroll County planter, Ralph Redditt , 73, Dies

RALPH REDDITT, 73, of Valley Farms, Sidon, a prominent Carroll County planter, died Wednesday morning in the Greenwood Leflore Hospital after a brief illness.

A life-long resident of Carroll and Leflore counties, Mr. Redditt had farming interests in Carroll, Holmes, and Sunflower counties. His agricultural interests included cotton, soybeans, cattle and timber.

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Whitehead Redditt, he attended Greenwood High School and Sunflower Junior College.

Mr. Redditt was on the board of directors for the Bank of Greenwood and the Greenwood Production Credit Association. He was chairman of the Production Credit Association 5th Farm District Advisory Committee and was also on the National Advisory Committee of the Production Credit Association.

HE SERVED as president of the Carroll County Farm Bureau, president of the Carroll County School Board for 20 years and president of the Carroll County Livestock Association.

A Carroll County conservation commissioner, he also served as area vice president of the Mississippi Association Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners.

He was a member of the Yazoo River Basin Forestry Advisory Committee and a member of the Leflore County's United Givers advisory board.

Mr. Redditt also served as past president and director of Le-Co Gin Company, past president of the Sidon Lions Club and past president and director of the Federal Land Bank Association of Greenwood.

He was a member and vice president of the board of Delta Council and received the 1968-69 Delta Council Achievement Award for Outstanding Conservation Farmer. He was also involved in the Carroll County Cancer Society.

He was a Mason, a member of the Elks Club and a member of the Sidon Methodist Church. He served on the administrative board of that church and was superintendent of the Sunday School for 30 years.

A PAST PRESIDENT of the Pillow Academy Booster Club, Redditt was also past president of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association in both Leflore and Carroll counties.

He was a patron of the Southern Debutante Assembly and was chosen as Junior Auxiliary Cotton Ball King in 1970. He was one of the organizers and served as president of the Young at Heart Dance Club.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Bardin Redditt of Valley Farms; a daughter, Vivian Redditt Hemphill of Silver City; three sons, Richard Perry Redditt of Forrest and Ralph Bardin Redditt and William Joseph Redditt, both of Greenwood; a sister, Virginia Redditt Danklefs of Columbia; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

SERVICES WILL BE at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wilson and Knight Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with the Rev. Wilson Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Carrollton.

Pallbearers will be James Lundy, Hugh Warren, Dewey Antoon, Virgil Cook, James Hooper, Micky Black, Tubby Black and Dick Benz. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald McShan, Dr. Brett Person, Jack Condra, C.A. Miller, Carl Lipe, Ben McCarty, Mike Carter Sr., Cecil Burnham, Godfrey Campbell, Charles Deaton, Billy Walker, David Branham, L.A. Gray, Albert Balias, Bartlow Hunt, Basil King, Le-Co Gin directors, John Stokes, B.F. Smith, Hugh Warren III, Bennie Fowler and directors of the Federal Land Bank Association of Greenwood.

Family visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at 204 Grand Boulevard.

Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.
