Ruth C. Dietzman Bahr, 78, passed away peacefully at her son Jim's home unexpectedly on Saturday, January 28, 2006.
She was born May 26, 1927 to Ray and Esther (Olson) Dietzman in Ridgeway, WI.

Ruth graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1945, and worked as a beautician at Miverva's Beauty Salon in Dodgeville until her marriage to Giles Bahr on November 6, 1945.

Together they operated Bahr's Market in Avoca and G&R Laundromats until they retired.

Ruth was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church Women of the ELCA, the Avoca Development Corporation, the Avoca American Legion Post 335 Auxiliary, and member and former officer of the Iowa County Historical Society.

Ruth enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and painting. She also cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She loved to dance, socialize, playing cards, watching NASCAR, football (especially the Packers), and was looking forward to the Superbowl.


Ruth is survived by nine children Judy (Tim) Brown of Muscoda, Doug (Cyndie) Bahr of Avoca, Ric (Ardyth) Bahr of Lutz, FL, Pamela Bahr of Avoca, Randy (Bill Edwards) Bahr of Clearwater, FL, Terry (Deena Kovars) Bahr of Avoca, Jim (Penny) Bahr of Barneveld, Sandee (Scott) Schlicher of Oconomowoc, and Perry (Lea) Bahr of Hollandale.

Ruth is further survived by a special friend Lynn Laufenberg of Madison, two brothers Ray (Izzy) Dietzman of Milwaukee, Rodney (Barbara) Dietzman, a sister-in-law Betty Dietzman of Verona, and a brother-in-law Bruno Cenite of Mineral Point.

Ruth is also survived by her grandchildren and their families: Michael and Ann Cannoy, (Hailey, Sarah) of Barneveld; Michelle and Jesse Brud (Nicholas, Jack, Max) of Waunakee; Donavon and Kim Nalepinski (Bryndl, Garbriel) of Avoca; Damion Nalepinski (Michelle Rice) of Boaz; January and Donnie Walton (Tayt, Ethyn, Tayiah) of Arena; Sara and Rickey Christianson (Logan) of Cashton; Robert and Sally Wayne (Megan, Joseph, Madison) of Brick, NJ; Heidi and Nick Court (Tyler, Hunter, Dakota) of Appleton; Natalie and Michael Weber (Oliva) Fredericksburg, VA; Jeremy and Tracy Wayne of Brandon, FL; Taressa and Michael George, Apopka, FL; Sunshine Frey (Doug Smith) FL; Ryan and Joshua Bahr; Katrina and Jason Shemak (Landon) of Highland; Amanda Kovars of Avoca; Terra Bahr of Avoca; Alexis and Abigail Bahr of Barneveld; Tyson Monroe of Oconomowoc; Kaley, Karley, and Kendra Bahr of Hollandale.


Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Giles, her daughter Kristine Penny, her brother Palmer, and her sister Joanne Cenite.

Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Avoca, with Pastor Steve C. Schneider and Pastor Bob Reamon officiating.

Burial was held at the Avoca Cemetery.

Friends called at the Godager Funeral Home in Muscoda on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at the Saint John's Lutheran Church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M.

The Godager Funeral Home of Muscoda assisted the family with their arrangements.
