Hugh was the son of John LaFevre, a wood cutter from Nockamixon Twp., Bucks Co., and his wife Catherine, whose maiden name is unknown. John was born about 1812 and Catherine was born about 1815, both in Pennsylvania.

Hugh married Catherine Ann Hammerstone, and they had thirteen children: Annie in 1873, Ellen in 1874, Lillie in 1877, Abigail in 1879, Walter in 1881, Alice A. in 1883, Harvey G. in 1886, Florence in 1888, Elmer Hammerstone in 1889, Clara in 1892, Herman in 1894, Laura in 1897 and Lloyd in 1900.

He lived in Durham Twp., Bucks Co., and Riegelsville. He was a laborer at the Durham furnace and a lumber yard worker.
