Born in Chatham, Conn., he went to Plainfield, Otsego Co, NY in 1815 then to Utica, Oneida Co. NY, in 1824. He there married Emma S. Pond, the eldest daughter of the Hon. A.S. Pond of Utica.
The came to Oswego in May, 1835 where he established an iron foundry. He was a well known and respected member of the Oswego community.
He was the father of Henry R., Cyrus, Richard, Marie B. (Clarke) & Helen Carrier.
