On September 13, 1937 Ralph married his sweetheart Maxine C. Dimmitt. This marriage was blessed with three children, Ralph Wright. Jr., Ronald Wright Sr. and Brenda Joyce Wright. Ralph loved his family dearly, he was a devoted husband and father. Ralph always made time to communicate with his children; "Wendell" as Ralph was affectionately known had a beautiful singing voice and frequently sang to his family. Wendell was an excellent provider for his family. Wendell worked at Continental Baking company as a company baker. Later he was a steel mill worker and a union official. When Wendell retired he was working at the Chicago Board of Education as a custodial engineer. Wendell was an active member of the Chatham Citizen Patrol for numerous years. He also was a former president of the neighborhood block club.
On July 25, 2001 God said, "Son your work is done come home, "and at 8:49 p.m. Wendell went home to be with the Lord." Wendell leaves to cherish his memory his children, Ralph Wright, Sr., Ronald Wright Sr. (Kiyomi), Brenda Miller (George). His grandchildren, Candace Alexis Brown (Emery), Ronald Wright Jr., Wendell Wright and George Miller IIII. Wendell was a devoted great-grandfather to Jordan Michael Alexis, Janelle Maxine Alexis and Bethany Colleen Brown. Wendell is also survived by his sister Ola Mae Washington and a host of neices, nephews, and friends. Wendell was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Remus, Reginald and Thomas.

Services: 11 a.m. July 31 in New Garfield Baptist Church, with calling there from 10 a.m. Burial New Crown Cemetery. He was the widower of Maxine Wright. Survivors: children, Ralph Wendell Jr., Ronald Wright, Brenda Wright-Miller; sister Ola Mae Washington; four grand children. Summers Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
