Hideo Ashida, 82, an area resident before moving to Kingman, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Kingman Community Hospital.

He was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Crowley County, Colo., the son of Eiroku and Toki Ashida.

In 1960, he moved to Johnson, where he was a farmer until his retirement. He had also resided in Holcomb before moving to Kingman in 1994.

Mr. Ashida was a member of Bethel Nazarene Church of Big Bow, served in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post No. 3684 of Johnson.

On Jan. 23, 1944, he married Amy Sasaki at Fort Lupton, Colo. She died in 1993. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnijean Ashida, in 1963; two brothers, Sam Ashida and George Ashida; and a sister, Mary Ashida.

Survivors are two sons, Bruce Ashida, Kingman, and Bob Ashida, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Betty Whitaker, Whitewater; five brothers, Nobe Ashida, Lajara, Colo., Hideoshi Ashida, La Junta, Colo., Lucky Ashida, Crowley, Colo., Kazu Ashida and Henry Ashida, both of Ordway, Colo.; three sisters, Rose Wilson, Widefield, Colo., Hideko Shioshita, Blanca, Colo., and Judy Chamberlin, Ordway; and four grandchildren.

Funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Nazarene Church, Big Bow, with the Revs. Tom Bose and Rick McNary officiating. Burial is in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City, at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson. Memorials are to Kingman Council on Aging, 305 N. Cedar St., Kingman, KS 67068, or in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.
