William Henry Lee was born in Clarendon, NY, in 1827--son of Dr. Ezekiel and Elizabeth (Strong) Lee. He was 15 years old when his family joined the Mormon Church. In 1847, the family traveled from Michigan to Kanesville, IA, where William Henry was ordained an Elder. He worked helping build the tabernacle there. He married Harriet Amelia Carter in 1849. In 1850 he built an oven and sold bread to emigrants headed to California, saved $120 and in May, he took his family and headed for Salt Lake Valley, arriving in October after surviving a measles epidemic that took several of their party.
In 1855 he married a cousin, Aurilla Lee, as his 2nd wife. In 1878 he married Elizabeth Cox, his 3rd wife. The 3 wives lived together in peace and harmony.
In 1877, William Henry Lee was made Bishop of Woodruff Ward and served in that capacity until he was released in 1890. In 1898 he was ordained a Patriarch.
Wife #1, Harriet Amelia, died in 1893. Aurilla died 1901 and Elizabeth died 1944.

Charles Lee married Joanna Susanna Dickson in 1889. Charles died in 1940- Joanna Susanna died 1905, leaving 5 children without a mother: Ansel, Joanna, Mary, Aurilla and Otis.
The children were farmed out to various relatives. Joanna was sent to live with Frances (Cornia) and her husband, Sam Gillette. Mary was sent to join Joanna in 1907. Per Mary (Lee) Call's autobiography: "We had a good home here, so far as clothing, food and the necessities of life were concerned, but we were often beaten, nearly always good and hard on the ears. We never knew what love was." Mary continues: In 1911 "..my father came to see Joanna and I, and took us to visit Aunt Harriet. We spent the summer there. We were supposed to be sent back to the Sam Gillette home but when we reached Bancroft, Joanna and I got jobs helping another aunt, Mary Sophronia (Dickson) Shipley, who managed a hotel. In 1913, Joanna married Clyde Ferguson Settle. Their children: Marjorie Ruth, Virginia Laura and Clyde Kennerly, who died in infancy. Clyde and Joanna owned and operated The Star Valley Independent in Afton, WY, for several years before moving to California.
