On August 31, 2008 our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend died unexpectedly from a Heart Attack while vacationing in Afton, Wyoming.

Earl was born on September 14, 1940 in Lehi, Utah to Clifford and Dorothy Armstrong. He graduated from East High School in 1958. From 1960 to 1962 he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Australian Mission. Following his service as a missionary, he continued his education at Weber State University earning a degree in Sociology in 1968. On December 17, 1964, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Harkness in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had four children. They later divorced. On August 1, 1986, he married Patricia Margetts Newsome. They recently celebrated their 22nd anniversary. They enjoyed traveling with their friends and were engaged in such at the time of his passing. Earl had a distinguished career with the Boy Scouts of America that lasted 37 years. He finished his career with the scouts as Director of Field Services in the Great Salt Lake Council and retired in 2004. He loved the scouting program and attended many National Scout Jamborees. He played a vital role in the lives of many young men including his three sons. He valued the many friendships that were made with fellow employees and volunteers of the scouting program. Earl was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities. He enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, "jeeping", softball, golf, hunting and traveling in his RV. He loved traveling with friends and often lit up when talking about future travel plans. He enjoyed yard work and was always known for having an immaculate yard. However, his greatest enjoyment was when he was in the company of his children and grandchildren and loved attending their various sporting events, dance performances, piano recitals, and other activities.

Earl is survived by his children, John (Jacque) Armstrong; Kevin (Teresa) Armstrong; Julie (Phillip) Oriotis; Kerry (Mindy) Armstrong; Lisa Newsome; Scott (Erin) Newsome; Nicole (Greg) Blackbourne; 19 beautiful grandchildren, all of whom love their grandpa; mother, Dorothy Armstrong; brothers, Lynn Armstrong; Kent Armstrong; sisters Darlene (Dick) Jones; Sue (Tom) West; Carol (Jeff) Coombs. Earl was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Earl Armstrong Sr.
