Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 31 (1961) at the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle for Mrs. Oscar Locken of Lake Bronson who passed away last Thursday, October 26th (1961), following an illness of about 2 months which found her in bed most of that time. Mrs. Locken was an endearing person to all who knew her and devoted a good portion of her life to helping others.
Officiating at the service were Rev. J. A. Riveness and Rev. Robert Holmlund of Lake Bronson. Pallbearers were Leonard Thompson, Glen Hawkyard, Harry Stromlund, Leo Locken, Wendell Anderson and Robert Prosser. Music was rendered in a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Ingolf Ingebrigtsen and a solo by Mrs. J. A. Riveness.
Interment was made in the Karlstad Cemetery with arrangements by the Kloempken Funeral Service.
Mary Stromlund Locken was born on June 14, 1891 in Stromsund, Sweden, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Stromlund. She was baptized in Sweden and emigrated to this country with her mother when she was nine years old. Upon arrival here, she was united with her father who had come to the United States three years earlier and had established a home on a farm near the Englund Store in Marshall County. While growing up there on the farm, she attended the rural Englund school and was confirmed in the Salem Lutheran Church.
She lived in Strandquist, Minnesota for many years and since 1953 has resided at Lake Bronson where she was employed at the rest home. On September 1, 1957, she was married to Mr. Oscar Locken at the Bethlehem Church in Hallock.
Prior to her passing, Mrs. Locken had been a patient at the Kittson Memorial Hospital in Hallock for thirty-one days and following her stay there was cared for at home for three and a half weeks. Mrs. Locken had attained the age of 70 years, 4 months and 12 days.
Preceding her in death were her first husband, her parents, six sisters and three brothers. Left to mourn her passing are her husband, 1 son, Albert Nelson of San Diego, California; a foster daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Yoraway [FAG Profile #67460406] of Minneapolis; two brothers, Tolef Stromlund of Granite City, Illinois; Jonus Stromlund of Strandquist; and one sister, Mrs. Joe Majewski of Brainerd, Minnesota; and three grandchildren.
