On September 7, 1925 he married Gladys Marie Campbell at Benton, MO. She died January 28, 1941.
Mr. Abernathy moved to Crump in 1934 from Scott County, and engaged in farming.
He then married Mrs. Helen (Huffman) Williams on February 1, 1944. She died December 11, 1979.
He was a member of Plainview Methodist Church in Bollinger County, but attended Bethlehem General Baptist Church in Crump, MO.
Surviving are three sons, Raymond Abernathy of Whitewater, MO; Lentice Abernathy of Whitewater, MO; Gene Abernathy of Gentry, AR; four stepsons; two daughters, Mrs. Olline Brown of Jackson, MO; Mrs. Loudean Case of Farmington, MO; four sisters, Mrs. Lydia Hamlyn of Lutesville, MO; Mrs. Sadie Trenthem of Lutesville, MO; Mrs. Cora Rhodes of Lutesville, MO; Mrs. Bertha Lashley of Ironton, MO; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
One son, three brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral service was Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home. Burial was in Plainview Cemetery.
