Marvis E. Sherrod, 88, of Groesbeck, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Groesbeck LTC. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 31, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard Williams and Joe Thomas Lenamond officiating. Visitation will be anytime prior to the service on Sunday, Aug. 31.
Marvis was born in Groesbeck, Texas, to the late Jim Edd and Lillie (Lenamond) Engram. She worked as a secretary for attorneys and was best known as the secretary for the Teague Independent School District. Marvis was also a faithful follower of Gospel Music Quartet, especially the Cathedrals.
Marvis was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Wallace Sherrod; son, Sam Edward Sherrod; and sister, Nancy Gathright.
Marvis is survived by her sister, Jeannette Engram Wier and husband, Jim, of Dallas; nephews, Bryan Gathright and wife, Cindy, of San Antonio, and Jeff Wier and wife, Jennie, of Dallas; nieces, Janice Wier James and husband, Mike, of Dallas, and Glyna Gay Manning and husband, Gordon, of Dallas; great-nieces and nephews, Hunter Gathright, of San Antonio, Becklien Wier, of Dallas, Hunter Moore, of San Antonio, Brittany and Brianne Gonzales, both of San Antonio, and Janie Miller, of Fort Worth; cousins, Elbert Engram and Sue Engram Little and husband, Charles, all of Groesbeck; great-great-niece, Courtney Miller, of McKinney, Texas; special friend, Janelle Henson, of Teague; and a host of friends in Teague and Groesbeck.
