A private message from Chatham last night conveyed the distressing news of the death at his home of Hon. Hughes Dillard, judge of this circuit, the end of a long and honorable career coming at 10 p.m., after an illness of about 18 months.
He was surrounded by his family at the end.
He was about 65 years old.

Judge Dillard was the youngest son of Colonel Hughes Dillard, and a brother of Judge P. H. Dillard of Franklin county, who survives him.
He leaves three sisters: Mrs. J. F. Wingfield of Roanoke; Mrs. William Chambers of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Bettie D. Arrington of Rocky Mount, Va.
He was united in marriage with Miss Mattie Wilson, daughter of the late Dr. John Wilson of Chatham, and is survived also by the following children:
Captain John Wilson Dillard of Chatham; Mrs. Willard Green of Bowling Green, Va., and Miss Betsy Redd Dillard.
His funeral took place at Chatham yesterday morning.
