31 MAY 2022 SAC to add State of birth and year of marriage.~He was shot in an old-fashion(ed) gun battle on Granny's Branch in McDonald County, Missouri. [Near present-day Jane, Missouri.]~* "Joel Cooper was carrying his grandchild across the Little Kansas, OK bridge. They were over there working, his step daughter Vesta's husband shot and killed him as he crossed the bridge. That bridge is still there. He wasn't shot in an old fashioned gun fight. I am Joel's great great granddaughter, the story of how he died has been told my whole life. My Great Grandad Orbin Cooper, Joel's son passed down this story through the generations. And my Mom Linda Marie Cooper can remember every memorial day that Grandad Orbin was alive, they went to Little Kansas, Oklahoma to decorate his grave. And stopped at a picnic area not far from the cemetery. There was a well in the middle of the street where they drank water from. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Earl would sometimes go with them over there. They made it a family day. My Mom is the daughter of Floyd Charles Cooper. He is the son of Orbin Charles Cooper. They lived in Granny's Branch, MO. But were in Little Kansas, OK working. Joel Cooper's wife known to Mom as Grandma Toner, who after Joel's death married Jack Tiner. Lived beside Orbin and Alma Cooper till the end of their lives. And Floyd Charles Cooper, her Dad, lived on the other side of Orbin." [Courtesy of FAG Contributor: Carrie Trotter-Fanning (50431319) •]
