He was born April 2 1928, on a farm in Elsmore, to James Leo and Eva Lena (Johnson) Hibbs. He grew up in Elsmore and was graduated from Humboldt High School in 1946.
He farmed northwest of Elsmore all his life. He enjoyed hunting, especially quail, and chewing tobacco.
On Dec. 21, 1971, he was married to Bonnie L. (Gillham) Haban in Craig County, Okla. She died May 24, 1996.
He is survived by a nephew, Kenneth James Hibbs, Ottawa; a niece, Sharon Scarrow and her husband, Virgil, Humboldt; a great-niece and great-nephew, SheRee and Ryan Scarrow; and many cousins and close friends.
A brother, Calvin Curtis, died earlier.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Elsmore Cemetery. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
Memorials to charity of donor's choice may be left at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels, Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
