Young Peter Emel followed his older brothers Charley and Bill from Moultrie County, Illinois, to claim land for a homestead near them across the nearby county line in Sherman County. [Their homesteads are just south of this cemetery.] The circumstances of his death are not known except for the note that 'he froze to death.'
