Joseph Sidlo, 68, Dies Suddenly

A prominent Webster county farmer, Joseph Sidlo, 68, died suddenly about 3:30 Friday afternoon of a heart attack while driving into the driveway of his farm home a mile and a half west of here, says a Bladen dispatch in the Hastings Tribune.

The Sidlo car had become stuck in the driveway as Mr. and Mrs. Sidlo were returning from Red Cloud. Mr. Sidlo dropped dead in the car.

He was born and raised in Webster county and was one of the outstanding farmers in the community.

Surviving him are his widow; a son, Edward of Bladen; a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Lukas of Blue Hill; one brother, Ed Sidlo of Cowles; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Dusek, Bladen, Mr. Elizabeth Zitch (Zitek), Blue Hill, Mrs. Alice Portenier, Guide Rock, and Mrs. Bertha Halesworth (Holsworth), Seven Lakes, Canada; and a granddaughter.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the family home with the Rev. Gertrude McCallum of Bladen officiating. Burial was in the Prairie Gem cemetery near Blue Hill.

Rites Held Monday for Joseph Sidlo

The community was shocked and saddened on Friday to hear of the sudden death of Joseph Sidlo. Mr. and Mrs. Sidlo had been to Red Cloud that afternoon and as he was driving into the driveway of his farm home a mile and a half west of Bladen he was stricken with a heart attack and passed away in the car.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the family home by the Rev. Miss Gertrude E. McCallum. Interment was in the East Lawn cemetery.

Mrs. Clarence Andresen sang "In the Garden," "Shall We Gather at the River," and "Crossing the Bar." She was accompanied by Miss Marjorie Anderson.

The Pallbearers were Roy Frazier, Robert Schlichtman, Homer Lovejoy, Charles Pavelka, Frank Wratten and Joe Skrdlant.

Joseph Sidlo, son of Joseph and Mary Sidlo, was born at the farm home 8 miles north of Red Cloud on July 7, 1880. He passed away at his home west of Bladen on December 3, 1948, at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 3 days.

On December 4, 1906, he was united in marriage to Louise Konfist. To this union two children, Edward and Ruby, were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidlo lived on a farm 5 miles north and 5 miles west of Red Cloud until February, 1923, when they moved to their present home 1 1/2 miles west of Bladen.

Mr. Sidlo was an industrious and progressive farmer who took great pride in his family, his home and his farm.

Surviving him are his wife, Louise; one son, Edward of Bladen; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Lukas of Blue Hill; a daughter-in-law Martha; a son-in-law, Frank Lukas; 2 grandchildren, Nola Jean and Lester Lee Sidlo; also four sisters, Mrs. Mary Dusek of Bladen, Mrs. Elizabeth Zitek of Blue Hill, Mrs. Albie Portenier of Guide Rock and Bertha Holsworth of Alberta, Canada; one brother, Eddie Sidlo of Cowles. Two sisters, Mrs. Anna Taylor and Mrs. Lydia Harpham, and one brother Adolph, preceeded him in death.
